About Us

How Kilmore Oneilland Trust Started?

Kilmore Oneilland Trust (KOT) was formed in 2021 by unpaid local volunteers to explore the redevelopment of the Kilmore Cottage to address evident environmental and social needs in the village and surrounding areas. The Kilmore Cottage has long been a Listed Building at Risk at the heart of the village, setting a tone of decline and dereliction. The building is of increased significance as one of the few (circa.144) surviving thatched buildings left in Northern Ireland (a reduction from 30,000 in 1950) and one of the fewer still that are located in a village setting where a viable scheme of restoration is possible. The site's prominent location at the centre of Kilmore provides us with an unique opportunity to develop an inclusive and sustainable scheme of development and restoration which can address local needs and be a catalyst for the regeneration of the core, community and character of Kilmore, making the area a better place to live work and visit.
